What to Expect at Your First Virtual Appointment
You booked the visit. Now comes the part nobody explains well: what actually happens.
If you’re the kind of person who likes to know what’s coming, this is for you. No vague reassurance, just the real sequence, start to finish.
Your first appointment is a real conversation, not a formality.
Before your visit: booking and intake
Here’s the real order of operations, start to finish:
Schedule your appointment. Choose your provider and book online in a few clicks. Most patients are seen within 7–10 days.
Complete intake forms. Fill out HIPAA-compliant digital forms covering your goals, health history, and what you’re hoping for from hormone therapy. A 10% deposit reserves your appointment slot.
Meet your provider. A secure video visit where your provider reviews your history, answers your questions, and recommends a personalized plan — including lab work and medication options.
Complete lab work. After your visit, we order the bloodwork needed to safely start therapy. You can get it done at home, at LabCorp or Quest, or at a walk-in clinic near you.
Begin hormone therapy. Once your lab results are in and everything looks good, your prescription is sent to your preferred pharmacy or delivered to your home.
If a specific step is unclear at any point, you can message your care team directly – we’re always here to help!
During your visit: what your provider actually covers
Your first appointment is a real conversation, not a formality. Expect your provider to walk through:
Your health history and current medications
Your goals for hormone therapy and what timeline is realistic for you
A personalized plan, including which labs you’ll need and what medication options fit your situation
What to expect once labs are ordered, and how delivery method (injection, patch, gel, or oral) factors into your plan
How follow-up visits and check-ins will work going forward
This is an informed consent model. In most states. That means adults don’t need a letter from a therapist or prior medical documentation to begin care. You’re not being evaluated to see if you “qualify” in some gatekept sense — you’re being given complete, accurate information so you can make the decision that’s right for you, together with your provider. You’re in control of the pace. Your provider is there to guide, not to decide for you.
You’ll have time for questions during your visit — bring a list if that helps you remember everything you wanted to ask.
After your visit: labs, then a follow-up appointment
Once you and your provider have agreed on a path forward, here’s what follows:
Your lab order goes out to the lab or your choice — we can help you decide if using insurance or self-pay is a better option for you
Once results are in, you will have a follow-up appointment to discuss your bloodwork and next steps
If everything looks good, your prescription is sent to your preferred pharmacy or delivered to your home
You’ll get clear instructions on dosing, timing, and what to watch for
You have a direct line to message your care team if anything feels off or unclear
Nothing about this process should feel like a black box. If at any point you’re not sure what’s supposed to happen next, that’s a sign to reach out — not a sign you did something wrong.
A few things people ask before their first visit
Some patients worry they need to have all the answers before they even start — that they need to know exactly which hormone, exactly which dose, exactly which timeline. You don’t. Your provider will walk through the options with you at your visit. Bring your questions, your uncertainty, and your goals. That’s enough to start.
Others worry the visit will feel clinical or impersonal because it’s virtual. In practice, most patients say the opposite: without a waiting room, a check-in desk, or a rushed in-person slot, there’s more room to actually talk.
Ready when you are
If you’ve been putting off booking because you didn’t know what the process looked like, hopefully this filled in the gaps. There’s no hidden step, no surprise gatekeeping conversation, no mystery timeline. A quick registration first, a real conversation second, labs and a clear plan third.

FAQs
Q: Do I need to do anything before my first virtual visit? A: Yes — schedule your appointment and complete your HIPAA-compliant intake forms, including a 10% deposit to reserve your slot. Your provider reviews your history and recommends a plan, including any lab work, during the visit itself.
Q: Do I get labs done before or after my visit? A: For folks new to hormone therapy, labs will be ordered and drawn after the first visit. For those who have previously been on hormone therapy, we can order labs before the visit.
Q: How long does the whole process take from booking to prescription? A: Most patients are seen within 7–10 days of booking. After your visit, how quickly your prescription goes out depends on how soon your lab results come back and your follow-up visit is scheduled — your care team can give you a specific estimate but this usually can occur within 2 weeks.
